Saelfen isn't the type to blindly follow the rules, but he's also not the type to completely disregard them. His brazen behavior was only possible because of his aunt's egregious betrayal of their clan. While he intended to annul his proposed marriage to House Telabban, Saelfen would have agreed if his aunt hadn't plotted to assassinate them. Saelfen is not the type to kill without a good reason, and he is not the type to break the rules, but rather bend them. If he happens to break the rules, then "Oh well". Saelfen isn't the type to cry about spilled milk, after all. He prefers to do things his own way, but within reasonable limits. While Saelfen isn't the type to cause trouble without a reason, but he'll probably end up in jail for being so stubborn. As far as he is concerned, rules are at best a suggestion, one that can be skirted around or bent by careful planning. Offending authority is not a concern for Saelfen if he knows he can get away with it.

In Brief
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most?
Despite the atrocities his aunt has committed against the Ustrain Clan, Saelfen misses her terribly. Adria raised him from birth, acting as the mother he never had in Anath's place. She was all he knew, the only person he could ever trust. They were like mother and son; Saelfen never strayed too far from Adria in his youth, often seen clinging to her side. She was the only reason he was still alive after Anath cast him away. In drow culture, female heirs are more desirable than males because only women could inherit the family name. It wasn't uncommon to learn of noble families selling their sons in favor of their daughters or even killing them shortly after birth. Adria protected him from the harsh cruelty of the Underdark and encouraged him to pursue his heart's desire. She was the only one who believed in him, despite him being a half-breed. However, Saelfen was oblivious to how dependent he was on Adria, and even now, after clawing his way to freedom, he still relies on everything she taught him to survive the harsh realities of life.
2. What are they most afraid of?
Saelfen's greatest fear is being dragged back into the shadows of the Underdark. He's terrified of being forced back there, knowing full well that he'll have to pay for his crimes. However, he is afraid of having to face his family again. The Ustrain Clan was not known for kindness, and even less for mercy. Saelfen believes he will be brutally tortured for his sins and will stop at nothing to prevent this from happening. Therefore, in a broad sense, Saelfen fears death itself.
3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally, and physically?
Saelfen was born with a weak constitution but strong magical abilities, so he was always physically weak. He can barely take a punch or defend himself with his meager strength alone. Because of this weakness, he was severely bullied as a child, despite his social status. It was clear that he would never be a great warrior, but his magical abilities earned him some admiration. Nonetheless, Saelfen is unable to defend himself without the use of magic. While Saelfen enjoys wielding blades and daggers, he lacks the strength to do so unless he imbues it with his magic. While the exact reason for Saelfen's physical weakness is unknown, it is believed to be due to his half-drow heritage. Aside from his biological mother, Anath, Saelfen knows very little about his ancestry. He is aware that he had a human father who was a mage of some sort, but other than that, Saelfen knows nothing about him. He blames his father for his weakness, believing he was cursed because of his human blood. This idea has warped his psyche, leading him to believe he is nothing more than a failure in the eyes of his true mother.
It goes without saying that surviving the Underdark is a test in itself. Just one turn could be your last, and those you befriend today may become your enemies later. Saelfen is no exception in this regard. Saelfen's harsh upbringing has left him cold and distant. He strives to keep others at bay, both mentally and emotionally. Saelfen does his best to keep his heart closed off to others, too afraid to let anyone inside for fear of being betrayed again. Adria's treachery left him with a deep psychological scar that has yet to be healed. Her betrayal taught him that trust does not exist in this cold, dark world. It’s because of this that Saelfen is slow to trust anyone. That is why he assumes the role of the chameleon. He conceals his true intentions from others, usually assuming a moderately friendly demeanor before striking like a serpent. It is difficult for anyone to understand his motivations, especially since Saelfen is so guarded. However, he will occasionally let his mask slip, revealing the wounded man beneath. This is a rare occurrence, especially since Saelfen was taught to hide his scars. Weakness often leads to death in the Underdark, and the same is true on the surface above. Fear is a good motivator for Saelfen, and it has carried him this far despite his many flaws.
In contrast to his kin, Saelfen does not pride himself on harming others. Violence is simply a tool he is forced to use when his back is against the metaphorical wall. He is tired of being mistreated and wishes that differences could be resolved through words, but Saelfen understands that words alone cannot always resolve a conflict. It is possible to argue that his emotional and mental state are directly related to the experiences he went through as a youth. While his life has improved since leaving the Underdark, he sometimes encounters casual discrimination on the surface that rivals the jeers and taunts he endured in the past. This is why Saelfen can appear nervous and uneasy around others. He has the habit of always expecting the worst from others, especially those who see him as nothing more than a drow. That is why he prefers to observe others from far away rather than become involved in their nonsense, but on rare occasions, Saelfen can't help but want to right the wrongs done to others.
4. What would make them happiest?
If there is one thing that would make him happy, it would be to finally be recognized in a world that dismisses him so casually. The drow are despised in Faerûn, and are frequently treated as monsters or pests. When dealing with people of different races, Saelfen has encountered plenty of racism. They frequently regard him as weak and pathetic, despite his greatness. So, if there is one thing that could make Saelfen happy, it is respect.
5. What’s their type of lover?
Saelfen's ideal lover would be someone who shares his passion for magic and knowledge. He's the scholarly type, the kind who enjoys a good debate over dinner and discovering new spells and magical artifacts. He is not the type of person who enjoys being stuck with someone who does not know their head from their ass. He wants someone as intelligent as himself, with a spark of genius in their eyes. It wouldn't help if they were also physically attractive, but he places little value on appearances. He is drawn to charismatic and intelligent individuals. However, he is somewhat afraid of women, especially drow women.

Abilities;
Replicate Magic items
As one would expect of an artificer, Saelfen can replicate a number of various magical items at will. While this ability is limited by once a day, Saelfen can make some of the most coveted magical items in DnD lore ranging from but not limited to: Winged Boots, Amulet of Health, the Gem of Seeing, or Bag of Holdings. In addition to creating these items, he can also imbue mundane items with magical essence, such as daggers, swords, arrows, and even something as innocent as a doll.
Infusion: The Dollmaker
Saelfen imbues various small humanoid spider-like dolls (example)with his magical essence, allowing them to attack and move in his place. It's an offset of "homunculus servant infusion," indicating that these dolls are something similar to other small constructs. These dolls typically carry medieval-style siege weapons on their person, which is amusing at times until they decide to retrieve the battering ram or rock slinging catapults.
Arcane Mastery
Not only can Saelfen perform basic enchantment spells, such as "Hold Person" which holds a humanoid in place using magic, but he can also bind monsters and celestial creatures with similar spell variants. The affected individual or creature is unable to move or act for a time, making them quite susceptible to attack. He typically uses this spell to place some distance between himself and his foes. Saelfen has a thorough understanding of magic as a result of his years of sorcery training at Menzoberranzan's Tier Breche Academy. He can use everything from a simple firebolt spell to more elaborate spells like creating lightning lures to ensnare his foes, as well as higher tiered fire spells such as "Dragon's Breath". He has a large spell repertoire because he began his training as a sorcerer before becoming an artificer.

Background;
In Brief
While some stories are meant to be heard and recounted to everyone, others are better left unsaid. One such story involves a peculiar man who was once a member of Maerimydra's most feared family. Saelfin is the firstborn son of the dreaded Ustrain Clan, a powerful clan of Drow Elves who ruled the city of Maerimydra with an iron fist. His mother, Anath, was the clan's matriarch and a revered servant of the wicked goddess Lolth. Disappointed that her first child was a boy, Anath left young Saelfin in the care of her younger sister Adria. Unlike his cruel mother, Adria was a kind soul with a maternal heart.
Early Life
Saelfen was abandoned by his mother and left to die on the outskirts of Maerimydra. He was born weak and feeble, not the strong child Anath desired and prayed for. In drow culture, only the strongest survive. Society often rejected or even killed those who were perceived as weak. The Underdark is a harsh environment with more dangers than one would expect. Anath believed her son had no chance of survival, so she abandoned him to starve to death when he was only a baby. Thankfully, fate had different plans. When Adria discovered what her sister had done, she rushed to find Saelfen and bring him home with her.
She raised Saelfen as if he were her own child, as she was unable to bear children due to a horrific attempt on her life years ago. As a former priestess of Lolth, Adria taught Saelfen everything she knew about the magical arts. There were very few male sorcerers among the Ustrain Clan to whom Saelfen could look for inspiration. However, that did not prevent the young boy from achieving the difficult goals set by his aunt. Drow magic is notoriously unpredictable and dangerous in the wrong hands, but Saelfen possessed a rare talent for it.
Nonetheless, when Saelfen discovered the world of artificers, he developed an obsession with magic. Artificers are master inventors who use ingenuity and magic to unlock extraordinary capabilities in objects. They see magic as a complex system that needs to be decoded and then used in spells and inventions. Artificers use a variety of tools to channel their arcane power, some more bizarre than others.
Saelfen's new hobby piqued the interest of many in Maerimydra, including the infamous daughter of his family's political opponents, Lady Mizlyth of House Telabban. The Telabban were a rival family that coveted the Ustrain Clan's power. They were vile individuals known for their shady dealings in the Underdark. While they lacked the political clout of the Ustrain, these would-be usurpers were well-liked by Lolth and were gradually gaining popularity among the nobility.
With the Ustrain Clan's future in jeopardy, Lady Anath sought a way to make peace with her rivals by using her only son as a bargaining tool. Political marriages were common among powerful families. While men lacked the social means to advance in society, their value was based on the female heirs they could produce. Anath forced her son to marry Mizlyth in the hopes of gaining favor with this upcoming house. Sadly, Lady Anath lacked the foresight to recognize just how dangerous her new adversaries were. While Saelfen worked tirelessly to become an artificer, his mother sought for a means to win favor with their would-be murderers…

Lies Between Sisters
Negotiations lasted weeks, then months, and finally years. Throughout this time, the Ustrain Clan worked to form alliances with House Telabban through trade and commerce, keeping a close eye on these young upstarts while claiming tutelage. Lady Anath hoped to eventually bring the two families together through contracts and marriage. As this shaky alliance grew, Saelfen continued his studies at Menzoberranzan's Tier Breche Academy.
Everything he learned from Adria paid off handsomely as he pursued further studies there. Saelfen easily impressed his peers with his magical fortitude, and he gained favor with Archmage Laerae Diniir, who was very interested in his abilities. However, all of Saelfen's accomplishments came crashing down when his upcoming marriage to Lady Mizlyth became a reality. While he learned the secrets of magic, his mother allowed the marriage to proceed. Saelfen returned to Maerimydra a week later, hoping to persuade his mother to change her mind, but Lady Anath had already made her decision. Saelfen was furious with his mother and told Adria about the decision, completely unaware of the heinous plot unfolding in the background. While he saw Adria as the mother he had always wanted, Saelfen found it odd that she seemed so excited about the marriage. Adria seemed more enthusiastic about this potential union than his mother. His aunt's approval of his mother's actions raised concerns, prompting him to inquire further. Saelfen used his family's wealth to enlist the assistance of a few acquaintances in his investigation of House Telabban. He knew that whatever answer he sought was hidden behind their locked doors. Saelfen's spies delved deep into Telabban, uncovering the truth about their family's ambitions.
The Telabban were more concerned with killing the Ustrain Clan than forming an alliance with them. Lady Mizlyth fed lies to his mother while consorting with his aunt. It was unsurprising within the Ustrain Clan that bad blood developed between the sisters, but Saelfen never expected Adria to go so far as to kill his mother. Adria's desires were forged out of vengeance, as it was none other than Saelfen's mother who orchestrated the attempt on her life all those years ago. Anath poisoned Adria in the prime of her life, hoping to murder her sister out of spite and jealousy. Adria was the more popular of the two and the one everyone turned to for guidance. Anath's jealousy drove her to want to kill her own sister, but the poison she prepared was insufficient. Adria survived the assassination attempt, but the poison rendered her completely barren and incapable of having children. Adria discovered the truth about her older sister's betrayal when Saelfen left for Tier Breche and formed an alliance with Telabban to murder his mother.
The shocking truth of this revelation perplexed Saelfen. Adria was not only the mastermind of this heinous plot, but her phony kindness towards him was nothing more than a means of controlling him. Her alleged *love* for him was nothing but a lie. Adria used the growing schism between him and his mother to establish herself in Saelfen's life. She played on his emotions, twisting and molding them to help her achieve her ultimate goal of eliminating the Ustrain Clan. With this hideous revelation revealed, there was only one thing Saelfen could do—revenge.

Midnight Tears
Saelfen began devising a devious plan that would not only destroy Telabban but also permanently ruin his aunt's life. He lulled Lady Mizlyth into a trap by using flattering words. Mizlyth's general interest in him was well known, so it was simple for him to entice the matriarch to visit his family's estate. The two would dine together as romantic lovers, while Saelfen plotted her death. Saelfen had one of his little spies buy a deadly toxin called "Midnight Tears" for their romantic evening.
It was a rare poison found only in the deepest pits of the Underdark that was intended to be consumed through food. Anyone who consumes this poison experiences no effect until the stroke of midnight. It was an odorless poison with a hint of spice similar to ginger. Saelfen disguised the taste of the poison by combining it with Mizlyth's wine. The Telabban matriarch drank her wine with no suspicion that dear Saelfen was plotting her demise. In her opinion, he was far too naive and stupid to understand what was going on behind the scenes. She underestimated him, which led to her downfall.
As the hour struck midnight, Mizlyth felt hot while the couple was enjoying themselves between silk sheets. Her flesh suddenly blistered, and her tongue felt hot and heavy. She could not breathe. Her throat constricted, causing her to wheeze as she reached for the glass of wine on the nightstand. The glass spilled over, turning her nightgown red, and she crashed to the black floors with a painful crack. The poison was deep within her bones, causing her limbs to feel limp as jelly. As Mizlyth took her final breath, Saelfen grabbed a fistful of her long, glorious hair and yanked her head back, revealing her pale throat. Something sharp sliced through her flesh like butter. It was Adria's favorite knife. Saelfen slit her throat in the guest bedroom with his aunt's prized dagger, a relic from her time as a priestess of Lolth.
Now that Mizlyth was dead, he meticulously cleaned the red hilt of the dagger and tossed it next to his betrothed's corpse. With a smile. Saelfen dressed himself and left the Ustrain Clan forever. It was a shame Saelfen couldn't stay to see the consequences of his crime, but he knew Adria would be blamed the moment they discovered her dagger. The poison only works at midnight before going dormant, making it difficult for doctors to determine the cause. Adria would be blamed, and House Telabban would fall because Lady Mizlyth had no heirs. It wasn't the best plan because it incriminated himself, but Saelfen was prepared to leave these dreadful caves.
He sought the light and ascended to the world above. As he pursued his only true passion, magic, the Underdark would become nothing more than a horrific memory.

Strength
Saelfen is physically weak as a result of an unusual birth defect brought on by his enhanced magical abilities, which he has had since childhood. As a result, Saelfen struggles to perform even the most basic tasks, such as carrying a crate, holding a kettle, and opening jars. He simply lacks the strength in his hands and arms to do so, making things difficult for him. This weakness in the hands and fingers is comparable to wearing a cast for several weeks. Saelfen is unable to pass most athletic tests due to this weakness, making it difficult for him to scale a wall or perform a stunt in midjump. He is also unable to jump long distances or swim.

Despite his hand muscle weakness, Saelfen is surprisingly dexterous. He's a skilled craftsman who specializes in making dolls and small automatons with the assistance of his creation, Safira. The elf also has an extraordinary sense of balance, being able to balance himself effortlessly across a sheet of ice or keep his balance on a narrow path. Saelfen is also reasonably skilled at picking locks and disarming traps if needed. However, he is not skilled enough to pickpocket someone. Nonetheless, Saelfen understands how to remain unseen, allowing him to sneak up on others without being noticed or heard.
Constitution
While Saelfen does not appear sickly, he lacks the constitution and attributes required to resist poisoning or disease. As a result, he rarely finds himself on the front lines of a skirmish. He has relatively few hit points, making him the epitome of a "glass cannon" because his magical aptitude far outweighs his physical strength and general constitution.
Intelligence
Finally, Saelfen gets to shine. His high intelligence stems from his fascination with the world around him. He's a quick learner, the type of person who can pick things up quickly even without much instruction. His knowledge stems from a thorough understanding of arcana, which allows him to recall lore about spells, magical items, eldritch symbols, and magical traditions. However, Saelfen's knowledge of history and lore extends far beyond his unbridled understanding of magic. In that sense, he is compared to a scribe, as he can recall a wide range of historical events and lost civilizations with ease. Saelfen is also very knowledgeable about nature, and he can easily identify specific plants and animals. This foresight allows him to easily navigate the land, especially once he becomes accustomed to a specific terrain. Saelfen is also adept at noticing or recalling lore about various deities, rituals, and prayers. He's an occultist, after all.
Wisdom
Saelfen may not be the wisest man, but he is wise enough to recognize when someone is lying to him. He can easily read a person's body language and understand their emotions by simply watching them. He is also the most likely to notice things about his surroundings or try to help someone who is injured. Saelfen is also skilled at handling animals, particularly domesticated ones like horses or dogs. He can keep his mount from becoming frightened or calm down a wild boar. He also has a thorough understanding of medicine, which enables him to make his own tonics and potions to treat a variety of heinous diseases. He also has excellent wilderness survival skills. Saelfen notices when someone is nearby and has an uncanny ability to track them down.
Charisma
Despite his somewhat somber demeanor, Saelfen is an extremely charismatic individual. He's confident, articulate, and exudes a vaguely commanding presence. He always keeps his head up, regardless of how others perceive him. While some may mistake his pride for arrogance, Saelfen certainly plays the role of a scholarly noble. He can effectively conceal the truth, either verbally or through his actions. His talent for deception is only second to his incredible ability to persuade others. Saelfen has a natural ability to persuade others to see things his way, and he is also adept at negotiating with people he may dislike.
